Don was a lifetime Spokane resident, born September 10, 1935. He graduated from Lewis & Clark High School. While attending school he met Marilyn who would become his wife of nearly 58 years. Don was a star on the high school baseball team, playing first base. Don worked at Pacific Intermountain Express for more than 30 years, and with Oak Harbor Freight Lines. Don loved the outdoors, taking family and friends camping and fishing on weekends. Favorite camping areas in Eastern Washington included Chewelah Creek and the Little Pend Oreille lake chain. Badger Lake was first choice for fishing season opening day. Don loved to take his family to baseball and hockey games. He always attended his family's baseball and volleyball games. He loved chucker and deer hunting in the Snake River Almota area and Mica Peak. Don joined a motorcycle club, supporting community charity rides. He was past director of the Hauser Lake Gun Club. He was the Washington State trap shooting champion for his age group. Often you would see him teaching young adults about trap shooting. Don loved animals, raising three German shorthairs and three Vizslas.
Preceded in death by parents Arthur and Vera Chatfield. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Bradley (Eleonora), Lynette (Steven) and Christopher (Judy); grandchildren, Christopher, Jennica, Gregory, Stefanie, Eileen; great-grandsons Quentin, Spencer. Don had many friends and enjoyed their interaction. His sense of humor made people smile and feel good about themselves. We know you are now in a better place and at peace. We love you and miss you every day.
