Training

Take off: Stratford-upon-Avon for a night navigation exercise and was destroyed.
While waiting for clearance to take-off from Stratford-upon-Avon, the Wellington was struck at 0240 by another of the unit's aircraft and totally destroyed. Both survivors were taken to Stratford Hospital, very seriously injured. Of those who died, Sgt Hough was taken to Macclesfield Cemetery, while the others were laid to rest in Stratford-upon-Avon Cemetery.
A particularly strong cross-wind was deemed to have been a contributory factor in this tragic accident. Sgt Whitworth is buried in Shepherd Cemetery; both Commonwealth airmen rest in Stratford-upon-Avon Cemetery, while F/S Gibby, a member of the pre-war Auxiliary Air Force, lies in Tunbridge Wells Cemetery,
