Marilyn was raised on a farm by two loving parents, along with eight siblings.

After graduating from North Fremont High School in Ashton, she attended the University of Idaho, where she earned a degree in home economics.

On June 26, 1960, Marilyn married Ladd Alexander Mitchell, whom she referred to as "the nicest man on Earth!". Marilyn and Ladd had two children, Mark Lane and Christa Ann. She later had 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Marilyn's hobbies included sewing, knitting, spinning, writing poetry, playing piano, singing showtunes and dancing with her sweetheart. Marilyn was loved by many for her straightforward, friendly and sincere demeanor.
