CHATFIELD, CHARLES KELTON beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend peacefully passed away on January 28, 2008 in Houston, Texas. Charles was born February 25, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to the late Nettie and Tom Chatfield. He grew up in Dallas where he graduated from North Dallas High School, class of 1947. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Civil Engineering and Business Administration. He was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He began his career in the engineering field with Austin Road Company in Dallas. In 1965 he moved with his family to Houston and later retired from Brown & Root in 1996 after 28 years as an estimator in the Heavy Highway Division. He was a member of Westbury United Methodist Church, the First United Methodist Church and the Adelphi Class at First Methodist. He and his wife Charlene were active members of the Saints and Spinners Square Dance Club for many years. He was also very active as a volunteer, especially after retirement. He served as the flood control chairman of the Precinct 287 Civic Club, delivered Meals on Wheels, assisted with the Alzheimer's caregivers group, and worked with AARP as an income tax preparer. He and his wife enjoyed many years of travel, initially as ambassadors and hosts of the Friendship Force Club of Houston. They spent summers in Duluth, Gig Harbor, Anchorage, Ontario, and Amherst, Nova Scotia. They also traveled all over the world and the USA, often as members of the Affordable Travel Club and Evergreen Travel Club. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Charlene CHATFIELD, and by daughter: Ann Corbut and her husband, Steve; son: Mark Chatfield and his wife, Carlyn; daughter: Becky Stevens; grandchildren: Lowell Stevens, Marie CHATFIELD, Beverly CHATFIELD, Zach Corbut, and Madison Corbut; step-mother: Rosa Kidd Chatfield; step-sister: Gailya Miazza and her husband, Jim. A chapel service will be held on Friday, February 1st at 3:30 pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service is planned for 2:30 pm on Sunday, February 10th in the sanctuary of Westbury United Methodist Church, 5200 Willowbend Blvd. in Houston, Texas, followed by a reception at the church.
