Deceased Name: Ned A. Chatfield
Born:1918 - Died:2010 Ned A. CHATFIELD, founding father of the City of Camarillo and member of the first City Council, passed away from natural causes on Aug. 9, 2010 at the age of 91. Ned was born on Nov. 21, 1918 in Portland, Ore., the son of Mary Teresa Aguirre of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and John Curtis Chatfield of Humboldt, Kan., and brother of Arthur Chatfield.

Their family moved to Los Angeles during the Great Depression. Ned Chatfield graduated from Lincoln High School in Los Angeles and, after attending college, joined the army and served in the Aleutian Islands. Following his military service, he joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department, where he served until his retirement.

Ned and his family moved to Camarillo in 1958. He fell in love with Camarillo, and when local citizens organized support for incorporation of the city he joined the venture, serving as one of the first five council members. In time, serving as Vice-Mayor, Mr. Chatfield's interest in his beloved city led to controlled, quality growth.

Mr. Chatfield is survived by his wife, Georgia Chatfield of Camarillo; daughter, Colleen Chatfield Mahoney of Camarillo; son, Christian Chatfield and his wife Candice of Trujillo, New Mexico. He is also survived by grandchildren, Teresa Conner and husband JJ, Christian Chatfield Jr. and wife Tateum, Georgianne Mahoney-Garcia and husband Phil, and Christianne "Codi" Mahoney.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16 in the Chapel of the Hills, located in the main building at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Chatfield will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, also in the Chapel of the Hills. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
