Robert Donald died in a mining accident.
Printed in the local newspaper "Kadina & Wallaroo Times" Wednesday 17 May 1899:-
"The late Mr R Sandford - Mr R Sandford, who was seriously injured at Wallaroo Mines on Thursday night, expired at an early hour on Saturday morning. Mr James Darling, JP made enquiries into the case, and decided that an inquest was not necessary. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon and was followed by 80 traps and procession of miners who took that means of showing their sympathy, the Members of Court Little John I.O.F, of which society deceased was a member, marched in front of the hearse. The cortege was a most impressive one, and considerable sympathy was expressed for the widow and children left without their breadwinner".
