Solomon enlisted for Civil War service in Company H, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, August 2, 1862, at Elyria, Ohio(Lorain County) for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. He was promoted to corporal, March 10, 1863. He was wounded at the Battle of Resaca, GA, May 14, 1864(flesh, hip) while carrying the regimental flag from the field. He was reduced to the rank of private, November 1, 1864 and was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps, January 15, 1865.

In 1860 he resided in Eaton Twp., Lorain County OH. By 1870 he had moved to Jackson County Michigan. The 1890 Veterans Schedule shows his wife, Elizabeth, still living there receiving a widow's benefit.

Solomon's name is on the base of the Civil War statue in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township, Lorain County at Butternut Ridge and Durkee Roads.
