John Sharp, a pioneer of Sharpsburg, Christian county, died Tuesday night at 11:30 o'clock at the home of his son, Ira G. Sharp. He was born in Claiborn county, Tenn. Nov 23, 1822. He came to Illinois at the age of fourteen years. He enlisted in the Army for the Mexican War at the age of twenty-three years. He was married in 1849 to Miss Emily Redfern. She died in 1880.
The village of Sharpsburg was named for him and his two brothers, Henry and G.R. He was a charter member of the Taylorville Masonic Lodge. He is survived by three children: Edward of Polson, Mont., Ira and Miss Lulu of Sharpsburg.
