DONIPHAN STATION ITEMS
We attended the last sad ceremonies of respect paid to the late deceased Mr. O. Edwards, whose remains were put in their last resting place in the Doniphan Cemetery, on Sunday, the 11th of November.

Seldom do we find so much modesty combined with so much merit. His modesty, his retiring disposition, have to a certain extent veiled the true worth of the man to the world at large, but not to those who knew him best.
Born in Huntingdon County, Pa., in 1839. He received a common school education and worked his way through college by teaching, having graduated from Lebanon, Ohio, in 18961. His plans were to pursue the study of law, but the breaking out of the war altered his plans. He enlisted in September, 1862, and served to the close, having received an honorable discharge in June, 1865.
In 1867 he came to Doniphan County, where he had been engaged in teaching and farming.
During the service for the Union, he contracted the disease which cause his death, yet he never asked for a pension.
Mr. Edwards' life was an unselfish one. Many are the kindnesses he has left along life's pathway, to grow up and bring rich heritage in the years that come.
