He immigrated to Australia in the summer of 1852 with his parents- see below. He married Marie Theresa Reeve in 1882 in Sydney, Australia. They had nine children in the 20 years between 1882 and 1902. Several of these children are mentioned in the 0bit for their mother when she passed away in 1936. Two of his children that died as infants are buried here in Waverly Cemetery with their father Adam Stephan nearby.
(Adam's father Adam was born on April 12, 1815 in Lampertheim, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt. The only known child of Peter Stephan b1782 and Anna Stumpf Stephan. It appears she died giving him birth in 1815. He immigrated with his family to Australia starting out from Hamburg, Germany on Jul 1st 1852. It was a long arduous journey of 3 months at sea as He had four sons and one daughter with Catherina Bender between 1843 and 1852. 0ne child Conrad lost his life in 1851 when he was run 0ver by the wagon wheel as they made their way to the port city of Hamburg. Another child Peter was born aboard ship in Aug 1852. He was named Peter Godfrey after the ship they arrived on. So 0ne tragedy was balanced by the arrival of a new life upon their disembarking in Australia in Oct of 1952. It appears that Adam's wife Catherine passed away shortly after their arrival in their new country. Adam passed away on August 19, 1878 in Sydney, Australia at the age of 63. (This family line can be traced back to the early 1500's on this site by clicking on the male parent of each ancestor of Adam) Written by a Stephan grandson - my ancestor was an Adam Stephan also b1813 in Lampertheim - the two Adams fathers were brothers making this Adam b1815 my 2nd Cousin.
