Alfred Henry Chaytor was born on 28 October 1869. He was the son of John Clervaux Chaytor and Emma Fearon. He married Dorothy Elizabeth Burrell, daughter of Harry Percy Burrell, on 1 August 1899. He died on 12 July 1931 at age 61.
He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.). He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 8th City of London Regiment. He was invested as a King's Counsel (K.C.). He lived at Clervaux Castle, Croft, Yorkshire, England. He lived at Iridge Place, Sussex, England.
